Thor left  today! He tried hard during his stay and learned his lessons. He especially enjoyed the group classes.  Good luck, Thor! You were one of our favorites so you have to be good in your new home and show them what a great dog you are. We will miss you!

Feb 13, 2006

Hi everyone, I'm Thor! I came from the good folks at the Calaveras Humane Society. My short life, about a year so far, has been pretty crazy. I remember being with all my brothers and sisters, playing and running around. Then they went away, one by one and finally someone came for me. It was fun at first, but then all the time I was tied up outside, by myself. I hated that and couldn't understand why no one wanted to see me or come to play. But then one day, I went for a car ride. That was great, but instead of coming back home I ended up in a cage all by myself with a bunch of other dogs barking at me!  I heard people talking saying I was a nice handsome male Chocolate Lab/Aussie Shepherd cross. They said I'm current on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and neutered. I don't know what neutered is, but I know I feel really great. And things didn't sound very good when they kept saying that is was too bad when they looked at me. I tried everything I knew, but still no one wanted to be with me.

After awhile, some nice people came and took me into a home. Boy, was I happy! They played with me and I had a great time. But, this was not a place that I could stay. They called it a foster, and I kept hearing them say I might be going to school.

That day came and here I am! And I am having a great time! In fact, this is the first time anyone spent time showing me what to do. All I ever wanted was to play and just be with a person. Now I am learning how to get just that.

Here I am learning something called heeling. It turns out that if I walk nicely at your side without pulling on the lead I get to go for longer walks! Who would have guessed?!

I also know how to sit when asked. And, I'll even sit when you stop walking. They called that an auto-sit and my teacher was happy when I learned that. I guess it's a big deal, but it's easy for me.

Check this out, I almost know how to lie down! I didn't get it at first, but one I was showed it all made sense. The secret is to look for the hand signals and listen for the command. That works pretty well to get pets. And when I try hard and get it all right, it's my favorite time... playtime! Everybody enjoys that. And better yet, sometimes a whole bunch of people and other dogs come out and we all get to play then do the training together! That's really fun and I bark for that! I love all the dogs that come to visit and really like all the people too. Sometimes I'm a little scared of new men, but that only lasts a little while. If you're nice to me, it doesn't take long to be best buddies!

But school doesn't last forever and every night I dream of a home of my own. As much as I love my teachers I really want my own family and people. I just know that some where there is a place for me where I will be loved and not just put out in the yard. If you're thinking about getting a new partner, please come see me! You won't be disappointed and I'll hold up my end of the bargain, I promise!
